Treat your Blog like a Business
Your blog is the equivalent of an online magazine or newspaper, and that is why you should treat your blog like a business. Like a magazine, you produce interesting high quality content on a regular basis for your readers. Like any successful publication, the volume of readers that you attract will deterine the ultimate success of your publication.
Magazines make money in two ways;
- Copy Sales
- Advertising
A blog makes money slightly differently;
- Advertising
- Recommending products and services
- Sponsorship
If it is going to work for you then you need to treat your blog like a business…. a publishing business.
By asking yourself what your readers want, you can start to meet their needs and give them the content that will keep them coming back for more.

Headlines work, that is why the big publishers use them, and use them to great effect. Writing compelling headlines that will grab your readers is the best way to get new readers. Think about the headlines that capture your attention and why you feel compelled to read an article?

As publishers we are all competing for our readers time. That is an important point to note, so in order to earn that valuable time you need to provide great content, backed up by a fantastic headline that is irresistable to readers.

Make sure that you treat your blog like a business and don’t neglect it. You also owe it to your readers to keep producing high quality content on a regular basis.
Magazines have a publishing schedule, be it once a week, a fortnight or monthly, whatever their frequency of publication, they stick to it. You must decide on a publishing rate for your blog and stick to it too.
Magazines save up an issues worth of content and produce it all in one go, you on the other hand much are producing a magazine, but one page at a time, and each of those pages will become a stand alone publication in their own right.
Respect your blog, respect your readers and respect your publishing schedule and you will build a great blog, with a large following. Onle once you treat your blog like a business will you start to realise the rewards of blogging and begin to generate an income from your efforts.
