What is Quality Blog Content? How to test your blog content

What is Quality Blog Content?

The quality of your blog is dependent on your quality blog content. What you publish on your blog is one of the most important elements of the whole blogging process.

You need to create high quality blog content for two reasons;

Firstly, it doesn’t matter how many visitors you attract to your blog, if the content is not very good then they won’t stay, and they won’t want to read more.

Secondly, Google can determine the reading age of the text on a page, so if there are too many grammatical errors, or the content isn’t well written they will know and they will penalise you, meaning less visitors from search, and less people enjoying your efforts.

In addition, Google know how many people it sends to your website, and how quickly they return back to Google looking for an alternative to your blog. If too many people hit the back button shortly after finding your content, then again you will drop in Googles rankings and receive less traffic.

Elements of Quality Blog Content

1. Write original content.
Search engines know if you have just copied someone else’s content to use yourself. Make sure that your content is original. You can check your content at http://www.copyscape.com

2. Pay attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Spelling mistakes can irritate readers and be off putting, so treat your blog as if it was a book you are publishing and spell check every post.

3. Include external links
When you reference other sites or content, don’t be afraid of linking to that content as it is considered good practice and helps your visitors to find what they are looking for. Make those links open in a new window so they don’t completely leave your blog.

4. Tie your content together with links
Use links within your content to  link to relevant content within your blog. This will help your visitors to easily navigate to the content that interests them the most.

5. Include images and videos
Images say 1000 words, so use them to get your message across.  Video is a great way to keep visitors on your site for longer, as well as a good way to get information to your visitors.

6. Offer a unique viewpoint
Ask yourself the question…. ‘what is my content adding to the subject?’ Rather than regurgitating existing content with a rewrite, try instead to offer a unique viewpoint as it will help you to attract your own fan base.

7. Keep each post ‘on topic’
It can be tempting to drift off topic, but it is important for your blogs performance to make each post as tight and focused as possible.
